A Strategic Partnership for a Digitalized and Efficient Gas Network
The Pietro Fiorentini Group and Hududgazta’minot JSC have signed a landmark agreement for the second phase of Uzbekistan’s gas transmission and distribution modernization project. This initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency, network stability, and digitalization, aligning with the Uzbek government’s strategic goals.
Key Developments in the Gas Modernization Project
Under this agreement, Pietro Fiorentini will deliver 5,434 smart gas regulation and control stations, marking a significant step toward a more intelligent and resilient energy infrastructure in Uzbekistan. Additionally, a specialized training center will be established to equip Uzbek engineers with the skills needed for operating and maintaining the upgraded gas network.
The project also benefits from the expertise of Terranova, a Pietro Fiorentini Group subsidiary, which will integrate its TSG software to enable real-time data collection, remote monitoring, and performance analysis of flow rates and pressures.
A Government Priority for Energy Security
Eshmuratov Bakhodir Beshimovich, Chairman of Hududgazta’minot JSC, emphasized the national importance of the modernization project:
“Hududgazta’minot received a mandate from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to modernize and reconstruct Uzbekistan’s gas supply system between 2022 and 2024. This initiative is a top priority, especially following service disruptions caused by extreme winter conditions.”
The agreement, signed in the presence of Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Italy, Otabek Akbarov, reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to digitalizing its gas distribution network, a critical step toward enhancing energy reliability, economic growth, and sustainability.
Advancing Smart Metering and Sustainable Energy Use
Over the past three years, Hududgazta’minot has led the Automated Gas Metering Control System project, installing over three million smart gas meters in homes across Uzbekistan. This transition has reduced gas consumption, raised public awareness about energy efficiency, and contributed to lower carbon emissions, benefiting both the national economy and the environment.
Pietro Fiorentini’s Continued Role in Uzbekistan’s Energy Transformation
Following the successful first phase of the project, Pietro Fiorentini continues to play a crucial role in advancing Uzbekistan’s gas infrastructure.
“After the success of the first phase, managed by Texnopark, we are honored that Hududgazta’minot has once again chosen Pietro Fiorentini as an industrial partner. These new smart stations will ensure a more stable and efficient gas network for Uzbek citizens.”
– Cristiano Nardi, Executive Chairman, Pietro Fiorentini Group
Current Progress and Future Plans
The second phase of modernization began in 2022 with:
- Maintenance of existing gas stations
- Integration of the national gas pipeline network
- Construction of 381 km of new pipelines
Already, four new Pietro Fiorentini smart stations have been successfully installed in Shaykhantakhur, Tashkent, as part of a pilot project. The rollout will expand across Tashkent and neighboring regions, with the ultimate goal of fully digitalizing Uzbekistan’s gas network by 2026.
Financial and Institutional Support
The project has also received the renewed support of SACE, an Italian financial institution specializing in supporting businesses in international markets.
“We are proud to support Pietro Fiorentini, a long-standing partner since 2005, in its global expansion efforts. This project aligns with SACE’s mission to promote ‘Made in Italy’ excellence abroad, particularly in Uzbekistan, a nation undergoing a significant business and economic transformation.”
– Bernardo Attolico, Chief Business Officer, SACE
Expected Benefits of the Gas Modernization Project
Once completed, the initiative will:
- Improve network stability, ensuring reliable gas supply even during consumption peaks
- Reduce emergency service interventions by over 60%
- Cut gas leaks by approximately 38.9 million cubic meters
- Enhance energy efficiency and sustainability for the entire community
