Pietro Fiorentini Group has achieved a major milestone in renewable energy innovation by supplying a pressure reduction and metering station along with a hydrogen blending plant for China’s first hydrogen-fueled powerhouse—the Green Power Plant in Jingmen, Hubei.
This pioneering project, launched in June 2021, is coordinated by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), one of China’s leading power generation companies, through its subsidiary China Power Jingmen Green Energy.
Engineering Excellence: Pietro Fiorentini’s Role in Hydrogen Blending
The hydrogen blending plant and pressure regulation and metering station were engineered, designed, and constructed by Shanghai Fiorentini, a joint venture between Pietro Fiorentini and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The company employs 500 professionals, ensuring high standards in hydrogen-ready solutions.
All pressure regulators, initially designed for natural gas applications, were supplied by Pietro Fiorentini’s headquarters in Vicenza, Italy, highlighting the company’s global commitment to sustainable energy transition.

SPIC aims to demonstrate the feasibility of hydrogen blending in natural gas power generation. The project proves that natural gas transmission and distribution networks can operate efficiently with hydrogen mixtures of up to 30% without modifying existing infrastructure.

By integrating hydrogen as a clean fuel source, the Green Power Plant sets a new benchmark in low-emission power generation. The 54-megawatt turbine, powered by up to 30% hydrogen, will reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by over 18,000 tonnes per year—the equivalent of eliminating pollution from 10,000 cars driving 20,000 kilometers annually.
