Advancing Hydrogen Technology for a Net-Zero Future
Pietro Fiorentini is actively contributing to Hy4Heat, a UK government initiative designed to explore the feasibility of replacing natural gas with hydrogen in residential and commercial buildings. This ambitious programme is a crucial step toward the UK’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Hy4Heat: A Key Project for Hydrogen Transition
Hy4Heat is funded by BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) and structured into ten work packages, each awarded through a competitive public tender process.
In 2019, Pietro Fiorentini secured a contract to develop hydrogen-compatible smart meters and will deliver certified prototypes by April 2021. The company has also been awarded two additional projects in 2021 to design and manufacture ancillary system components for domestic hydrogen appliances, including:
- Gas pressure regulators
- Piping systems
- Hydrogen-compatible valves
These components, essential for the safe and efficient use of hydrogen as a fuel source, will be available as qualified models by March 2021.
Pietro Fiorentini’s Commitment to Green Energy Innovation
“The British Government is investing £25 million in the Hy4Heat programme. For our company, this is an opportunity to reaffirm our leadership in renewable energy solutions,” said Enrico Carollo, Sales Area Manager at Pietro Fiorentini.
“I want to thank all colleagues who are passionately working on these cutting-edge hydrogen projects. These initiatives lay the groundwork for future expansions and allow us to further strengthen our expertise in green energy technologies,” added Claudio Imboccioli, Director of Research and Development at Pietro Fiorentini.
The Role of Hydrogen in Heating and Decarbonization
Hy4Heat aims to assess the viability of hydrogen as a direct replacement for natural gas in heating and cooking applications. The programme will provide critical insights into:
- Technical performance of hydrogen systems
- Usability and safety standards for residential and commercial adoption
- Hydrogen’s potential role in the UK’s heat decarbonization strategy
Leading the Future of Smart Hydrogen Solutions
With extensive experience in gas distribution technology, Pietro Fiorentini is at the forefront of hydrogen infrastructure development. The company’s participation in Hy4Heat reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the transition to renewable energy sources.
